Once again from the 4th through the 7th of May, 2010, the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre was transformed into the Mecca of the QA industry, and thus defended its reputation as the world’s leading trade fair for quality assurance. Already during his opening speech, private trade fair promoter Paul E. Schall made it plainly apparent that CONTROL sees itself as the economic barometer for industrial production of quality products, because – expressed in simple terms – when there’s nothing to produce there’s no need for quality assurance equipment. On the other hand, in particular during economically difficult times, high quality goods have good prospects, for which reason manufacturing companies cannot allow themselves to slack off in their efforts targeted at the economic production of top quality goods. Due to the fact that the economic indicators are also once again pointing up, the 24th CONTROL took place at precisely the right time.
Quality is when exhibitors and expert visitors are all enthusiastic ...
That was the opinion of the 20,369 expert visitors as well, who were able to gather comprehensive information on four trade fair days regarding all QA relevant technologies, products, subsystems and complete hardware and software solutions as representatives of their companies or respective corporate divisions. Right from the very first day of the event, the 837 exhibitors from 28 countries registered lively, and above all concrete interest for products, as well as detail and system solutions, so that both manufacturers and dealers were very confident at the end of the trade fair, and according to their own statements are expecting good to very good post-event business. A multitude of innovations and highly practical components and equipment for measuring technology, materials testing, analysis technology and optoelectronics, as well as for QA systems and QA organisation, were presented in four exhibition halls (1, 3, 5 and 7), and thus on more than 570,000 square feet of overall exhibition floor space.
Quality is a proven fact when information offerings leave no question unanswered.
A host of highly informative supplementary events rounded things out, which were very well accepted by the international expert visitors and await a repeat performance at the 25th CONTROL in the year 2011. CONTROL – contactless measuring technology, CONTROL – efficiency and effective use of resources in production, CONTROL’s theme park for quality assurance in medical engineering, CONTROL – exhibitor forum, CONTROL and DGQ panel discussion, and finally the special events offered by the Fraunhofer Institute – all of these assured a continuous influx of expert visitors; and the fact that even more exhibitors came from outside of Germany, and that the exhibitors placed special emphasis on visitor quality (and thus the quality of their RFQs and meetings), is conspicuous. Inquiries regarding these questions also revealed that the expert visitors had rarely been as well prepared as this time round, and that they got right down to business immediately after entering the exhibitors’ booths.
Quality is apparent when the concept is still right on the money after 25 years.
A further highlight on the very first day of the event was the presentation of the “2010 Baden-Württemberg Award for Competence in Innovation and Quality”. It was awarded in three categories, once to Mahr GmbH for an innovative digital vernier calliper, as well as to Wittenstein alpha for the consistent implementation of an innovation project with systematically incorporated product and process quality, and to well known entrepreneur Prof. Klaus Fischer for his outstanding work in implementing a philosophy of continuous improvement for all company processes with the goal of avoiding waste. And last but not least, the meeting of the trade fair advisory board held on the last day of the event confirmed the assessment of many exhibitors that CONTROL has once again experienced positive development and can look to the future with confidence, especially in light of the fact that the next CONTROL, which will be held from 3 to 6 May 2011, will bear the “25 Years of CONTROL” seal of quality, making the trade fair with strong international flair extremely tough to beat.
